about

From Benjamin Doerr, December 2010...

This project is just the beginning of what I think will be a lifelong process of telling my grandfather’s story – in particular his war experience in the south of France, where he grew up under German occupation and fought with the Free French to liberate his country.

His is a humble yet complex journey, and while it is wholly his many of the experiences are, no doubt, shared by the young men that marched beside him creating a collective history that is forever bound in war – but also in love.

There are many ways to tell a story. I am touched that my grandfather has shared his with me, and I feel moved to present this part of my family history in a way that feels most authentic and natural to me– through music.
